OUR NEIGHBORS TALKED

So We Listened

We took some time to hear what Tulsans think about the museum.

And we heard nothing but glowing reviews about Philbrook and how important it is to the city. But we also saw a clear picture of how a new direction could connect more deeply with the community.

And dove into a little bit of data.

We wanted to break open what’s happening in your space, not just in Tulsa. We know the last few years have brought changes in most industries, and yours is no different.

From shifting demands on museums to new audience opportunities, here are some of the changes we found:

in your industry,

New Audiences

Racially Diverse

Asian or Asian Americans are now the
most likely to have visited a museum in the
last year at 46%, nearly 11% higher than the
next most likely segment.

Younger Core

Young adults under 40 are the most likely
to have visited a museum in the last year, with
Parents and Guardians taking their children being
the top demographic.

New Needs

Community

As society grapples with loneliness and
separation in a digital age, the demand for
in-person events continues to rise.

Wellness

Evolving from a place to find inspiration
in the art itself, people are now seeing
museums as a way to uplift their mental
and physical health as well.

in your city,

Exciting Growth

Tulsa Remote

Tulsa is serious about its future, enacting
grant programs like Tulsa Remote to bring in
more remote employees, in addition to
courting more businesses to set-up shop here.

New Development

New housing developments are underway
to meet the growing demand and continue
building new, positive chapters in the
city’s rich, thriving story.

New Opportunities

Route 66 Centennial

After decades of being a destination for Route 66 travelers, Philbrook has an opportunity to capitalize on the centennial spotlight.

Garden District

As Tulsa development continues, the idea
of Tulsa formalizing its Garden District was
mentioned on our tour, with Philbrook
playing a central role in its foundation.

and at Philbrook.

New Programs

A Hub for Tulsa

From foraging classes to movies on the lawn,
for the last decade, Philbrook has aggressively
increased its programming, making it a keystone
for the city as a place to gather and grow.

Expanding Footprint

With ground being broken for the Tandy Pavilion,
an exciting new chapter is quickly approaching for
Philbrook as it expands its impact with
the incredible grounds it calls home.

Evolving Vision

Arts & Garden

What we heard on the tour is that the emphasis
is shifting from solely on exhibits to the overall
experience visitors have at Philbrook. This
puts equal weight on the grounds and the halls.

Diverse Exhibits

We also noted the intentionality
of the exhibit curation. The goal is not just
holding world-class art, it’s also making sure
diverse and emerging voices are represented.
